Most parents are out of shape because they are busy, tired and short on time. As a parent, you also have a permanent excuse not to take care of yourself or eat right. After all, your kids come first and there's always snacks around.
I'm a firm believer that if you can't take care of yourself, you can't optimally take care of anybody else. It all starts with you. Want to be a better parent? Create a better you.
Taking care of yourself does not mean you're putting yourself before your kids. It means you care about your kids and want them to have the best version of you as their parent. Taking care of yourself makes you a better parent, spouse and caretaker. In addition, you will be stronger, more resilient to sickness, have more energy and also set a good example for your kids.
If you want to find balance between parenting and fitness, it starts by finding a way to do both. There are lots of ways to help ensure success such as investing in workout equipment for your home, finding a gym with daycare, learning efficient ways to meal prep and even including your kids in your workouts. Where there's a will, there's a way.
If diet and exercise only happen when conditions are perfect, you'll never accomplish anything. Often times you're going to have to do what it takes in spite of how you feel, how busy you are or how bad your day was. Over time your body will adapt, become stronger and more resilient and you will begin to have more energy. Once you start seeing results, you might even begin enjoying the process too.
